The Cross in Layers

These two crosses were built from multiple pieces of laser-cut wood, with each layer adding depth, movement, and detail to the finished work. One allows the natural warmth and grain of the wood to carry the design. The other uses color to distinguish the layers and bring its ornament forward in a different way.
The patterns are intricate, but they are gathered around a simple and enduring form. The cross stands at the center of the Christian faith because it is there that the wisdom and power of God are displayed in what the world might regard as weakness.
Layer upon layer, the eye is drawn back toward the same confession: Christ crucified. The beauty of the craftsmanship is meant to serve that truth, directing our attention beyond the object itself to the Savior who gave Himself for us.
