John 10:11 names Jesus as the Good Shepherd—not as a distant figure watching from the hills, but as the One who comes near to his sheep and lays down his life for them.
I wanted this image to hold together strength and tenderness. Christ is near enough to guide, patient enough to remain, and strong enough to carry his people through places they would not choose for themselves. The sheep does not secure its own safety by understanding the whole path. It is safe because it belongs to the Shepherd.
That is the comfort at the center of the image: our hope is not that the road will always be easy, but that Christ knows his own, stays near, and will bring them home.
